Croatian Biophysical Society was founded in 1980 as a branch of Yugoslav Biophysical Society. It got
the status of a public legal body and was registered as a public organization at the Ministry of
Justice in 1991. In 1993 the Society joined the international associations IUPAB (International Union
for Pure and Applied Biophysics) and EBSA (European Biophysical Societies Association).
Biophysics in Croatia has a remarkable history, established by a series of events since 1966 (Iz
povijesti drustva*, an article by Dr. Jasminka Brnjas-Kraljevic).
The aims of the Society are promotion and development of biophysical sciences, of biophysical
education, of applying biophysics in other scientific fields and professions, as well as improving
the reputation and social significance of biophysics and biophysicists. The aims are being
accomplished by a range of activities (Aktivnosti drustva* (.pdf), an article by Dr. Dubravka Krilov).
The activities of the society are being carried out at meetings, workshops, lectures, by publishing,
co-organization of International Summer School, collaboration with other associations, institutions
and trade associations.
Members of the society are individuals involved with biophysics on a level of scientific research or
educational work, as well as students, other individuals and legal bodies whose activities are
related to biophysics. The list of members of the Society can be found here.
Governing activities, as defined by the Statute*
of the Society, are being performed by the governing bodies
of the Society.
